David Vitter, Louisiana’s phantom senator, concerned about Abramoff scandal….
It was recently reported that, in March of 2005, Sen. John McCain had assured Louisiana Republican Sen. Vitter, a/k/a the phantom, that if the Senate were allowed to trace the dirty money, the Senate would stop when the trail led to Vitter:
Roll Call reported on March 10, 2005, that McCain assured colleagues Sen. Conrad Burns (R-MT) and Sen. David Vitter (R-LA) they would not be caught up in the investigation into how Abramoff bilked $82 million from the American Indian tribes he represented
The Center for Responsive Politics reported McCain himself fed at the Abramoff trough:
Contributions to John McCain (R-Ariz) Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians…$4,000 in 2004 and $1,000 in 2000
Heck letting any Republican have a say-so in the Abramoff-Republican payoff scandal is letting the fox guard the hen house.
