In England every note of patriotic music, nationalist poetry or libertarian verse was in jeopardy:

And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air…
…No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave...
Every piece of art, sculpture or photography was at risk. Every protest, dissent or opposition was in peril. Free speech would no longer be free.
