Psst, Mr. President, your pants are on fire, or another Kodak moment.
"I, frankly, don't even remember having my picture taken with [Abramoff]. I don't know him…" Those were the words of Pres. Bush as he tried to distance himself from power-broker Jack Abramoff.
Both The New York Times and Time magazine published pictures to contrary. The photos show Bush shaking hands with an Abramoff client, chairman Raul Garza of the Kickapoo Indian tribe in Texas, while Abramoff, Karl Rove, and Bush top advisors look on . Here Bush is shaking hands with Chief Raul Garza of the Kickapoo tribe of Texas. In the background at left is the lobbyist Jack Abramoff; Karl Rove, a top adviser, is at the right. A White House photographer took the photo.
The New York Times says, the photo "leaves unanswered questions about how Mr. Abramoff and the tribal leader, whom he was trying to sign as a client, gained access to a meeting with the president on the White House grounds that was ostensibly for a group of state legislators who were supporting Mr. Bush's 2001 tax cut plan."
